This one is less of a fight than it looks. Oura is a ring. Bevel is an app. Bevel can even read Oura data. The real question is what you want on your body at 3 a.m.
One disclosure. I build Mallet, so I compete with both. Everything below was checked against each company's own pages on October 10, 2026. Prices and features move. Check theirs before you buy.
What You Are Actually Choosing
Oura is hardware plus a membership. The Oura Ring 4 starts at $349. The membership is $5.99 a month or $69.99 a year in the US, and Oura says you need the ring to get the insights. The app runs on iPhone and Android.
Bevel is software for the watch you already own. The core is free. Bevel Pro is $14.99 a month or $99.99 a year. It is iPhone and Apple Watch only.
So one side asks you to buy a ring. The other asks you to sleep in a watch.
Sleep Is Oura's Home Turf
A ring is easy to wear overnight. That is the honest advantage. Oura builds its day around Sleep and Readiness scores, with Cardiovascular Age, stress tracking, and cycle insights around them, plus an AI companion called Oura Advisor.
One caution that applies to every wearable, Bevel included. Sleep stages are estimates. Use the score as a signal, not a verdict. I wrote more about that in treat the sleep score as beta.
| Question | Bevel | Oura |
|---|---|---|
| What do you wear? | The Apple Watch you own | An Oura Ring, from $349 |
| Sleep and readiness | Sleep and Recovery scores, free | Sleep and Readiness scores, with membership |
| Strength training | Strength Builder on the watch and phone | Activity is detected. Many people take a ring off to lift |
| Food logging | Built in and free | Meals, with photo logging |
| Blood work | Pro: lab uploads and Biological Age | Lab uploads as a PDF, added in 2026 |
| Phones | iPhone only | iPhone and Android |
| Price | Free. Pro is $99.99 a year | $349 and up, plus $69.99 a year |
You Can Run Both
Bevel lists Oura as a data source. So this does not have to be a breakup. Ring for the night. Bevel for training, food, and the daily picture. If you already own the ring, you may just want a different place to read it.
Pick Oura If
- Sleep is the main job. And you will not wear a watch to bed.
- You are on Android. Bevel is not an option there yet.
- You want one company for the sensor and the app. Oura owns both ends.
Pick Bevel If
- You already own an Apple Watch. No new hardware, and the core is free.
- Lifting matters. Most people take a ring off to grip a bar. A watch stays on.
- You want food and training in the same free app.
What Neither One Is Built For
Both will tell you how last night went. Neither checks whether three supplements doubled the same ingredient. Neither is built to hold a peptide cycle, with a dose history you can hand to a clinician. And a readiness score, from either one, is still an input. It should not get to write the whole week.
That is the layer I am building Mallet for. It reads wearable data, including Apple Health and Oura, and puts it next to supplements, protocols, labs, food, and training. If the ring stays and the week still needs a plan, read the Oura alternative piece. If Bevel is the one you are outgrowing, read the Bevel alternative piece.
Keep the ring or keep the watch. Mallet gives the morning score a place to land, next to food, training, labs, and your stack, so one bad night can change the week without running it. Get early access →
This Week
If you already own an Oura Ring, Bevel lists it as a source, so you can read the same nights in both apps for a week. Keep the one whose morning screen changes what you do. If you own neither, start with the one that costs nothing to try. For the details on Bevel's tiers, read what is free and what is Pro.
